HBC

We had our first Patient that was D.O.A. from "hit by car". As it turned out, this little dog was actually accidentally run over in the street by his owner's electric wheelchair. :(

recent and distant past

There is so much i should have been writing in here the last few months. Momentously, i got a job as a vet assistant! I went through a 5 week training and i've been on the job for at least a month now. i also finished the last of my first tier vet tech classes and i'll begin the second tier on january. i have a notebook full of the knowledge and tips i've gained. and there are many stories in my head i could tell. I wonder if i would be in trouble if i told a story about a client and my company were to find out. hopefully if i leave out the names and don't reveal where i work things should be fine?

I will try to update this blog more faithfully. i still have a lot left to learn adn it'll be great to look back on it all someday.

For know i am really enjoying reading James Herriot's All creatures Great and Small. And i'm also watching the tv series of the same name on netflix. some of the stories are so vivid they make me want to draw an illustration of the scene. Our lead doctor who told me there was a tv series used to work with a vet who met Alf wight, the real-life herriot. Apparently while he was alive, he would welcome any vet into his office to visit for a moment. sort of a brotherhood of vets. :)

creepy crawlies

Today i was informed that one of the dogs at daycare has worms. So when he pooped, i took a glance and sure enough, a moving, white worm was easily visible. I don't think it was tapeworm, since those are segments.

Reading about animal bites.

"Be particularly cautious with bats. Some doctors believe that any potential
contact with a bat, even simply seeing a bat in your house, requires a rabies vaccination."
"Studies have shown that in cases where a person contracted rabies from a bat, many of the victims were
not even aware they had been bitten by a bat. If you see a bat in your house or a bat touches you in any
way, you should contact a health care provider immediately for advice"

Yikes! don't even look at them!

life changes.

well my life has changed significantly this year and will continue to do so. My 8 year relationshhip has fallen apart, I have moved from hawaii to washington and I am now working in a Doggie daycare.

I am continuing on my career quest, in fact, my next semester starts monday!
i took the summer off of school  but i will now be studying pharmacology, small animal dieseases, and medical terminology.
I am still looking for a position in a vet clinic or shelter so i can start gaining useful experience and do my hands-on assignments.

I have been trying to be more productive with my creative pursuits and reaching my goals. hopefully that includes updating this blog. :)

'cuse you!

just came across an unfamiliar word in my textbook, so i googled it:

eructation
1. the process of belching.
2. that which is regurgitated in belching.

the context of this was that you have to be careful about cows barfing and burping ( and thus choking) after they been on their side for surgery..because they got lots of stomachs in there.

Sadly, someone tried to burn down a petstore in my hometown. Luckily, the animals were not harmed.
