Sharps off!
So i don't know if this a tradition/rule? everywhere, but in my hospital, and the hospital i trained in: Doctors remove all sharps( syringe needles, scalpel blades and suture needles) from their instrument tray following a surgery. This helps ensure that it is safe for the nurse to clean up everything. If the Dr. forgets the deal is that they then owe the tech a milkshake :D Last Thursday, i noticed that after a combination dental cleaning/ skin tag removal, my Dr. had left the suture needle out, and the scalpel blade attached to the handle.(probably because our patient started to wake up quickly after she finished.) "hey, does this mean you are supposed to get me something?" i joked. "Oh yeah!" she said "what would you like?" So next time we have a morning surgery together she's going to bring me a coffee. :)

HBC
We had our first Patient that was D.O.A. from "hit by car". As it turned out, this little dog was actually accidentally run over in the street by his owner's electric wheelchair. :(

recent and distant past
There is so much i should have been writing in here the last few months. Momentously, i got a job as a vet assistant! I went through a 5 week training and i've been on the job for at least a month now. i also finished the last of my first tier vet tech classes and i'll begin the second tier on january. i have a notebook full of the knowledge and tips i've gained. and there are many stories in my head i could tell. I wonder if i would be in trouble if i told a story about a client and my company were to find out. hopefully if i leave out the names and don't reveal where i work things should be fine?
I will try to update this blog more faithfully. i still have a lot left to learn adn it'll be great to look back on it all someday.
For know i am really enjoying reading James Herriot's All creatures Great and Small. And i'm also watching the tv series of the same name on netflix. some of the stories are so vivid they make me want to draw an illustration of the scene. Our lead doctor who told me there was a tv series used to work with a vet who met Alf wight, the real-life herriot. Apparently while he was alive, he would welcome any vet into his office to visit for a moment. sort of a brotherhood of vets. :)

creepy crawlies
Today i was informed that one of the dogs at daycare has worms. So when he pooped, i took a glance and sure enough, a moving, white worm was easily visible. I don't think it was tapeworm, since those are segments.
